I am a professional of 35 years. I just acquired a vintage Morgan 7M alto. Holy cow. I play all four horns (S, A, T, B) and have owned probably hundreds of pieces over the years. I have been able to find my voice on a number of Tenor and Bari pieces, but alto and soprano are more of a challenge to find a good, full blowing piece that can respond from a whisper to a shout - with a nice, warm core and higher overtones that can be driven to a scream if necessary. This is what a pro needs to tackle everything from jazz to pop to funk and rock.
This mouthpiece does it. Holy cow, does it do it. My lip is sore b/c I couldn't put it down. It worked equally well with a Mk VI, Radio Improved and Yammie 62. I will say - this is a VINTAGE piece, before the logo was stamped on the back. "7 M Morgan" and some other things I can't read are hand-scrawled across the shank, including what appears to be a treble clef.
All I can say is, if he's making them the same way now, don't hesitate - it's a HELL of a piece, and I have good Links, Meyers, Bergs, Lambersons etc.
Thanks, Ralph! By the way, we spoke probably 25 years ago when I was referred to you by Wil. Your work is SUPERB. God bless.
